Today the Boston Globe printed an obituary of Julia Thorne, who passed away yesterday at the age of 61.

The bloggers at We Love John Kerry will always remember Ms. Thorne with deep gratitude for her important writing in the field of clinical depression, and for sharing her wonderful daughters with the world.

Our thoughts and prayers of are with the Thorne and Kerry families.

We'll also always remember the things we heard about that showed what kind of person she was -- how she was still supportive of Senator Kerry even after they were divorced, how she was hurt by the attacks on him and offered to stand up and defend him against the Swift Boat Liars. What a classy lady.

I agree with N.D., that the respect that she and John Kerry showed for each other was impressive. That the daughters, by all accounts had wonderful relations with both is testimony to the maturity that both showed in putting them first when their marriage failed.

I loved her comments in Tour of Duty which were very positive and told a lot about Kerry as a pretty likable young man. Her offer to defend him against the SBVT was incredibly sweet. From all accounts, it was her desire to avoid the back stabbing in politics and a desire for peace that caused her to ask Kerry for a divorce. That she was willing to subject herself to the extreme nastiness of the sleasiest political asassins, was amazing. It's also good that he didn't take her up on it, because it wouldn't have helped against the liars and she would have been attacked.
